eLearning
eLearning refers to a range of activities using information and communication technologies (ICT) to support and enhance learning. It also includes effective use of various software applications, digital resources and learning tools, collaboration with people in various locations, use of virtual environments and access to online courses from home and elsewhere.
The Vision for any educator in today's world should be the need to create a learning environment where the use of diverse, up-to-date information and ICT is embedded in our daily practices. All teachers need to be motivated, confident and creative users of ICT, equipped with the skills and knowledge to successfully achieve their personal and educational goals and interact effectively with their students.
But how do we do this? I will confess to all. I am a teacher from the old school. "Chalk, Talk, Entertain, Teach and they will Learn". I was taught that way and it worked for me. Hey I became a Teacher!
However, we all have to realise that times have changed. Education has changed and the teaching styles our students need today have to also change. There is nothing wrong with the old styles but we need to all use new ways of teaching to keep our students interested. Why? Because they are getting bored.
One effective way I have found that keeps my students interested in learning is through podcasting and vodcasting my lessons. Why podcast or vodcast? Some students may be absent from school and miss vital information. Other students may just forget what happened in the previous lesson. One way I solved this problem was to record the lesson via digital means. My students then download the recorded files either to their MP3/MP4 players and can listen in on the missed lesson at their convenience.
What a great idea!
